Rep Your Roots, Honor the Legacy

From the pulpits to the picket lines, the South has always been the heart of the struggle and the soul of the Black liberation movement.

This hoodie celebrates just a few of the organizers who led the fight for civil rights throughout the American South:

  • Rosa Parks: Her act of defiance in Montgomery, Alabama ignited the city's bus boycott. She demonstrated the power of everyday courage to challenge systemic injustice.

  • Medgar Evers: As the NAACP's first field secretary in Mississippi, he organized voter registration drives and investigated racist violence. His work, and his assassination, galvanized the Civil Rights Movement.

  • Kwame Ture: A key organizer of Mississippi's Freedom Summer and the Lowndes County Freedom Organization in Alabama. He famously raised the call for "Black Power," shifting the movement's rhetoric toward self-determination.

  • Martin Luther King Jr.: From the Montgomery Bus Boycott to the Birmingham Campaign and the Selma to Montgomery marches, his leadership in Southern cities championed nonviolent direct action. His vision and oratory mobilized a nation.

  • Diane Nash: A fearless strategist from Nashville, Tennessee, she co-founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). She played a pivotal role in the Freedom Rides, confronting segregation in interstate travel.

  • Ella Baker: A grassroots organizer from Norfolk, Virginia, she worked with the NAACP, SCLC, and was a mentor to the founders of SNCC. She championed group-centered leadership over relying on a single charismatic figure.

100% of the proceeds from this sweatshirt go directly to on the-ground progressive organizing efforts across the United States. When you support the Liberation Store, you support building people power.
